Social Media Accessibility

The Universal Design and Access Committee has consulted with social media managers for the University of Utah’s main Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts. These accounts consistently follow accessible practices.

The UDAC is liaising with units across campus to encourage similar accessible practices on all accounts. Accessible social media practices include:

  • Images: Providing alternative text or descriptions
  • Videos: Providing accurate captions, transcripts, and descriptive text
  • Pascal Case: Using capital letters to start each word in a hashtag (ex: #PascalCase) or user handle (ex: @PascalCase) (Note: Instagram does not allow capital letters for user handles.)
  • Links: Using descriptive labels for hyperlinks (University of Utah rather than www.utah.edu)

See resources about social media and online accessibility in the Social Media Accessibility section of our Campus Accessibility site.
